Overview
As a Senior Museum Technician, you will play a crucial role in the planning, development, and execution of exhibitions. Responsibilities
- Assist in the coordination and installation of museum exhibits, ensuring the proper handling and display of artifacts.
- Perform artifact cleaning, preservation, and conservation techniques to maintain their integrity and longevity.
- Create detailed records and documentation of artifacts, including cataloging and labeling.
- Conduct research to support exhibition development, authenticity, and historical accuracy.
- Collaborate with team members on exhibit design, layout, and interpretive elements.
- Supervise and train junior museum technicians.
- Maintain a safe and organized workspace, adhering to museum standards and protocols.
- Assist with object loans, acquisitions, and deaccessioning processes.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, technology, and best practices in museum conservation and exhibition techniques.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (Museum Studies, History, Archaeology, or Art History preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a museum or cultural institution, with a focus on exhibit installation and artifact handling.
- Strong knowledge of museum preservation and conservation practices.
- Proficient in artifact cataloging and database management.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with fragile or sensitive objects.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in a team and meet project deadlines.
- Flexible schedule, including the ability to work weekends and evenings when necessary.
